Self Guided Budget Kenya Itinerary: Bush, Beach and B&B

Day 1 - Upon arrival at Nairobi International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay. This will allow you to rest after your long flights and get ready for the upcoming adventure.


Day 2 – Today, following breakfast around 10am, you will be taken from your accommodation to explore both the Giraffe Centre and the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi. You will return to your hotel by mid-afternoon. Stay overnight in Nairobi.

Day 3 - Departing Nairobi early in the morning (between 6am and 7am), you will journey towards the Rift Valley before reaching the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Upon arrival in Masai Mara in the afternoon, you will check in, enjoy lunch, and embark on an afternoon game drive at 4pm. After the drive, return to your Mara Camp for dinner and an overnight stay. This is a budget camp with an approximate transit time of 6 hours.

Kindly note that this safari is shared if there are fewer than 6 participants.

Day 4 - On this day, you will explore Maasai Mara, which is Kenya's most renowned game sanctuary. Here, you will have the ideal chance to see the Big Five animals - Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Rhino, and Elephant. The game drive involves venturing out with picnic lunches to spend the entire day in the park. All meals and accommodation will be provided at the Mara Camp. Additionally, you have the option to experience a sunrise hot air balloon ride with a champagne breakfast in the Mara for an extra cost of €450. Your overnight stay will be at the Mara Camp, which is a budget-friendly option.

Day 5 - Today starts off with a more leisurely morning following breakfast. After checking out, you will have the optional extra to explore a nearby Masai village ($20) and learn about their traditional lifestyle by taking a tour of their homes. After, you will return to Nairobi, with an estimated arrival time of around 18:00hrs. You will be dropped off at your Nairobi hotel for an overnight stay. The approximate travel time is 6 hours. Day 6 – Following breakfast, you will complete the check-out process and then be taken to Nairobi airport for your flight to Mombasa. Upon arrival in Mombasa, you will be transported to your hotel in Diani for some well-deserved relaxation time. The approximate travel time to the hotel is around 2 hours.

Day 7 - Enjoy a day of relaxation. You have the option to relax at the pool bar or unwind on the beach. The choice is yours.

Day 8 – Similar to the day before. You have the option to relax at the pool bar, unwind on the beach, take a boat tour, or try sunset paddle boarding

Day 9 - Following breakfast, you will depart from your hotel and return to Mombasa airport for your flight back to Nairobi. Transfer to the hotel. Spend the night at a hotel in Nairobi.

Day 10 – Today your tour will end and you will be dropped to the airport in time for your flight home. Airport transfer included.

(there will be a supplement of €150pp extra if booked in high season July-Dec as park fees and accommodation costs increase)



*If there is less than 6 people booking the budget safari please note the jeeps will be on a shared basis with other people. As this is a budget safari, if there is 6 of you booking together then jeep will be private.


Included: All airport transfers, all transport through out the trip, all accommodation, Nairobi B&B, Mara budget camp on a full board basis and Diani hotel B&B, evening safari, full day safari, Jeep from Nairobi to Mara, 2 internal flights to and from Mombasa, the newly increased park entry fees, the sheldrick wildlife centre and the giraffe center.


NOT included: International flights, Hot air balloon ride €450, travel insurance, meals not listed in the itinerary, any required PCR tests or tips (approx 6500ksh)

Please not itinerary may be subject to small changes due to any unforeseen circumstances that may arise.


Terms and conditions:

If you are happy with the itinerary and want to go ahead and book the self guided tour to Kenya A deposit of €500 will be required to secure your booking within upon confirmation of the self guided tour. This deposit is non-refundable. The deposit is non-refundable due to several important factors. When you book a place on the self guided tour, I immediately begin the process of planning and preparing for your journey. These preparations often involve upfront costs that are incurred from the moment your booking is confirmed. 


The balance will be due 10 weeks before the start of the self guided tour start date. You can make the payments in instalments after the deposit is paid if that suits you.


For the balance of your payment, I maybe able to refund this up 10 weeks before the trip should you have an emergency and need to cancel. Anything closer then 10 weeks, and I cannot refund you.


I suggest you take out comprehensive travel-insurance that covers trip cancellations, that way should you have to cancel you are covered, you will get a full pay out from your insurance company. Keep an eye on the excess required.
