The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is one of the most visited places in Hanoi. This mausoleum is the final resting place of Ho Chi Minh, the former prime minister and president of the Northern Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh played a vital role in the early part of the Vietnam War. His body is preserved inside this Mausoleum in a glass case even though it was completely against his wishes. The construction of the Mausoleum was started in 1973 and it is modelled on Lenin's Mausoleum in Russia. It was opened to the general public in 1975.
Visitors are allowed into the mausoleum from the 1st April to the 31st of October from 7.30am - 10.30am Tuesday to Thursday and from 7.30am - 11.00am on Saturday and Sunday. From the 1st November to 31st March, it is open from 8.00am to 11.00am Tuesday - Thursday and from 8.00am to 11.30am on Saturday and Sunday. The mausoleum does not open on Monday’s or Friday’s. While there is nearly always long queue’s, the queue does move quite quickly.
There are strict rules in place at the mausoleum which include a certin dress code (no shorts, sleeveless shirts and miniskirts). You have to stay walking at all times, you are not allowed to stop as you go through or as you go around the body. Guards will hurry you along quite quickly.
